On the 1st January, 2008, we flew to Benidorm from Coventry Airport. It
was a pleasure to fly from this airport. Car parking was just across the
road from the terminal, there was no hassel, no other passengers except
those on our flight. One bit of advice - make sure you take a good book,
as once you have passed through security there is nothing to do or
nowhere to go. On our return the collection of the luggage was so fast,
that we hardly had time to catch our breath after coming through
passport control - we collect our car buggeled the luggage into the car
and drove off, as we had pre-booked and pre-paid for our parking. I
would certainly recommend flying from hear - but NOT in the Summer -
there would be not room for everyone.
This year we stayed at the Rialto Hotel. A lovely Hotel. Staff was
friendly and food was excellent. We had a lovely room overlooking the
mountains but was on the back and had the sun on the balcony late
morning .The weather was the best we'd ever had - even better than last
year - 28c.
The dancing programme was excellent - there is somewhere to go every
night - something to suite eveyone. Should you be going this winter the
dancing programme is as follows (I hope I have got the days right - just in
case I'm wrong please check when you get thtere):
THE BENIDORM PLAZA - DANCE LEADERS: Tom & Agnes
Sunday / Monday / Wednesday / Friday / Saturday : 8.30pm - 10.30pm
An excellent place to go dancing. The ballroom is a self contained room
of reasonable size and is a nice floor to dance on. A great mixture of
dancing, again ranging from the up-to-date sequence, social sequence
and ballroom. Vey nice and pleasant couple and will dance with people
who don't have partners. However, there is a small charge of 6 euros
(don't let this put you off, you'll have a great night), however, if you are
with Thomson or Portland it is free entrance.
THE AMBASSADOR PLAYA HOTEL
Tuesday / Thursday / Saturday(9.15pm - 11.15pm) with Thomson
leaders - great is you know all the newer sequences.
Friday / Monday (9.30pm - 11.30ishpm) with Paula - what a great social
night - ballroom, latin & social sequence with any request you wish
A great size room. Floor is ok. There are two pillars that can cause
problems. Can get very crowed.
RIALTO HOTEL - with Carlos (keyboard player)
A great young man who plays a mixture of live music and CD's. What
ever you what he will play it for you. The ballroom is a self contained
room down stairs and airconditioned. Excellent venue - we would
recommend everyone to hunt him down - you'll have a great night.
Monday / Wednesday
He also plays at the Castilla Hotel - Thursday and Saturday. However,
they have had a change round in the bar and the floor is now smaller -
not good.
There are regualar Tea Dances and dance classes throughout the week at
various hotels - unfortunately I don't have details of these.
